Brittany, Normandy, and Pays de la Loire regions in France have joined forces to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen technology.
This strategic alliance, dubbed the “Greater West Hydrogen Basin,” aims to propel the regions into a leading position in the green hydrogen sector.
Driven by a common ambition to achieve their 2030 targets, the three regions are shifting gears from individual projects to a large-scale, collaborative approach. By pooling their resources and expertise, they aim to create a robust hydrogen ecosystem encompassing production, infrastructure, and applications.
With all three regions boasting significant maritime industries, hydrogen’s potential in decarbonizing ports and shipping is a key focus. Additionally, strong logistics networks and port-linked hydrogen hubs further bolster the consortium’s competitive edge.
Demonstrating its commitment, Brittany has pledged €25 million over six years (2024-2030) to propel the sector forward. Additionally, a joint study with Pays de la Loire is exploring potential hydrogen production deposits, indicating further collaborative efforts.
