Under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), Brooge Energy, a Cayman Islands-based infrastructure provider, announced a partnership with Siemens Energy, one of the world’s largest energy technology suppliers, to develop a plant in Abu Dhabi that will use solar PV to produce green hydrogen and ammonia. Brooge Energy is currently involved in clean petroleum products, biofuels, and crude oil storage.

In a unique ceremony at the World Government Summit 2023, Brooge Energy and Siemens Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to begin their partnership.

Sharif Al Olama, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure’s Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, Ahmed Al Kaabi, the Ministry’s Assistant Under-Secretary for Petroleum, Gas, and Mineral Resources, as well as senior executives from the two firms, attended the event.

According to the MoU, the two businesses will work together to build the facility and look into other clean energy collaboration opportunities while MoEI provides them with facilities.

Energy transformation has long been a strategic objective for the UAE, according to Al Olama. We are confidently moving toward using future energy sources, particularly hydrogen, in our energy mix to ensure we are on a low-carbon development path, in keeping with the goals of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.

“The Ministry is trying to build a strong green hydrogen industry in the UAE,” he continued. The UAE Energy Strategy 2050 is presently being updated to reflect the country’s future objectives in light of our role as the host of the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), and we have developed the UAE Hydrogen Leadership Roadmap to do so.

Al Olama praised the collaboration between Brooge Energy and Siemens as a shining illustration of the UAE’s desire to increase the private sector’s contribution to achieving its net zero and climate aspirations.

He emphasized that the new project, which will use solar PV to produce green hydrogen and ammonia, will hasten the country’s transition to net zero, expand the production of green hydrogen, and strengthen the UAE’s position as a trustworthy hydrogen provider.

It is with great honor that we announce our relationship with Siemens Energy at the World Government Summit 2023, as together we take a step toward a greener future, stated Lina Saheb, Interim CEO of Brooge. On this significant project, I am looking forward to cooperating closely with the brilliant Siemens team.

“Our relationship with Brooge Energy is in keeping with the company’s global aims of speeding the energy transformation,” said Khalid Bin Hadi, Head of Government Affairs in the UAE and Middle East at Siemens Energy. We can maximize the use of green hydrogen as a significant source of sustainable energy through public-private collaborations. The United Arab Emirates has always taken the initiative to create a sustainable future and combat climate change through broad-based, effective programs. The nation has proclaimed 2023 as the Year of Sustainability and will host the COP28 later this year, highlighting its crucial position as a problem-solver and creator of cutting-edge energy and climate solutions.
