Deutsche Bahn, a German public transportation company, and a Portuguese manufacturer have agreed to buy 60 hydrogen buses by 2026.
The action is a part of DB Regio Bus’s aim to phase out the last diesel bus in 2038. DB Regio Bus transports 470 million people annually. In Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein, the first FCEBs will begin operating in the beginning of 2024.
The fuel cells were manufactured by Toyota, while the buses came from the Portuguese company CaetanoBus.
The twelve-meter-long new “H2 CityGold” buses offer 34 seats and 47 standing spaces. On a single tank of hydrogen, the vehicles can drive 350 km in the winter and 550 km in the summer.
