Carburos Metálicos joins H2PORTS

Carburos Metálicos, a subsidiary of the Air Products Group, has just joined the H2PORTS consortium.

The Port of Valencia will test a hydrogen-fueled reach stacker and a 44 ro-ro terminal tractor as part of the partnership. A transportable hydrogen refueling station will provide fuel for the cars (HRS).

Carburos Metálicos wants to share its hydrogen-supply experience with the port-maritime business.

The business will lead the installation of the HRS at the Port of Valencia and administer it during the two-year pilot term as part of the H2PORTS initiative.

Carburos Metálicos will supply the project with renewable hydrogen, as well as the logistics required for optimal delivery to the port machinery. To guarantee safe operations, it will also provide assistance with safety training and the exchange of best practices with partners and stakeholders.

“We are honored to be part of the Consortium. We use a collaborative approach at Carburos Metálicos to create and promote the hydrogen economy. “This effort complements other mobility projects we are conducting, such as the Hydrogen Route, which includes demonstrations of hydrogen fuel cell bus supply and refueling in numerous towns around Spain,” stated Miquel Lope, General Manager of Carburos Metálicos.

“We are supplying renewable hydrogen fuel and installing a refueling station for Spain’s first permanent bus line powered by renewable hydrogen, and in 2023 we will open a new public hydrogen refueling station in Tarragona, in the heart of the Mediterranean corridor and close to the city’s important port area.”

Atena stated earlier this year that it was working on a hydrogen Terminal Tractor as part of the H2PORTS initiative.

After arriving at Valencia Terminal Europa (VALTE) in Valenciaport, the vehicle will be fuelled by a fuel cell supplied by sustainable energy experts Ballard and will be tested for two years in real-world operations.
