The State of Ceara in Brazil and CGN Brasil Energia, a branch of China’s CGN Group, have signed a memorandum of understanding.
This aims to collaborate on solar, wind, and green hydrogen energy projects. Governor Elmano de Freitas highlighted the importance of this partnership, especially amid renewed diplomatic ties between Brazil and China. He emphasized that these investments are pivotal for Ceara’s strategic focus on renewable energy development.
Governor Freitas pointed to a significant meeting between Brazilian President Lula and Chinese President Xi Jinping. This meeting focused on infrastructure development and Chinese investments in Brazil, opening doors for broader collaborations. The governor expressed optimism that this diplomatic renewal would produce positive outcomes, with CGN’s activities in Ceara playing a crucial role in this transformation.
Offshore Wind and Green Hydrogen
The agreement outlines a project to develop an offshore wind farm along Ceara’s coast, aiming for a 1,000 MW capacity. The initiative will roll out in phases, with initial studies slated to start this year. Alongside wind energy, solar projects with a potential capacity of up to 400 MW are also in the pipeline. Furthermore, CGN Brasil Energia plans to build a pilot plant for green hydrogen production, enhancing the state’s renewable energy landscape.
The memorandum also includes the creation of the Lagoinha photovoltaic solar project in Russas, with a capacity of 194 MWp. This project represents an investment of about R$650 million and will create approximately 900 jobs. It is hoped that this will pave the way for further large-scale projects, fostering economic growth and employment opportunities.
