Cepsa and Ibereólica Unite to Fuel Andalusia’s Renewable Energy Growth

Cepsa, a leading energy company, has entered into an agreement with Ibereólica Renovables Group to promote the development of new renewable projects in Andalusia, Spain, with a total capacity of up to 5 GW.

This collaboration aims to provide Cepsa with access to competitive renewable electricity for its Energy Parks in Andalusia, specifically for green hydrogen plants and service stations.

The renewable energy will be sourced from a portfolio of projects primarily focused on wind power, being advanced by Grupo Ibereólica Renovables. These projects, located in various regions of Spain, including Burgos, Palencia, Valladolid, Zamora, Ávila, and Cáceres, are expected to be operational by 2026. The portfolio consists of nine wind projects, four photovoltaic projects, and two hybrid projects, collectively generating an annual energy equivalent to the consumption of over four million homes and avoiding the emission of 5.5 million tons of CO2 per year.

The strategic alignment between Cepsa’s green hydrogen initiatives and Ibereólica’s wind power projects optimizes the access to renewable energy needed for Cepsa’s industrial centers and green hydrogen production. Furthermore, Cepsa is already developing 17 photovoltaic projects with a total capacity of 2.1 GW in various regions of Spain.

Through this collaboration, Cepsa aims to achieve its Positive Motion strategy, leading sustainable mobility and the production of green hydrogen and biofuels in Spain and Portugal by 2030. On the other hand, Ibereólica Renovables seeks to consolidate its position as a key player in the renewable energy sector and contribute to the decarbonization of the energy matrix.

Carlos Barrasa, Director of Commercial & Clean Energies at Cepsa, emphasized the long-term access to sustainable energy through the partnership, which will facilitate the development of green hydrogen and biofuel projects alongside Cepsa’s existing renewable energy initiatives.

Gregorio Álvarez, President and Founder of Grupo Ibereólica Renovables, highlighted the significance of the alliance with Cepsa as a crucial driver for the company’s renewable generation projects and their commitment to a more sustainable world.

This collaboration between Cepsa and Ibereólica Renovables demonstrates a joint commitment to advancing renewable energy development, decarbonization, and the transition to a more sustainable energy future in Spain. By harnessing wind power and expanding their renewable energy portfolios, both companies contribute to reducing carbon emissions and fostering the growth of green technologies in the region.
