In a bid to attract investment and promote renewable energy, the Chhattisgarh government has rolled out a significant green hydrogen initiative.
This was unveiled at the Global Renewable Energy Investor Meet held in Gujarat. This launch is part of Chhattisgarh’s new industrial policy for 2024-29.
Sumit Sarkar, CEO of the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority, highlighted the region’s rich biomass resources. Agricultural waste and dairy byproducts are plentiful in Chhattisgarh and are seen as valuable inputs for producing green hydrogen on a large scale.
The initiative is poised to significantly benefit Chhattisgarh’s major industries, such as steel, food processing, and fertilizer manufacturing. These sectors are expected to gain from an eco-friendly energy source, enhancing their sustainability profiles.
This drive is in line with India’s national Green Hydrogen Mission, which targets the production of 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. Chhattisgarh’s efforts are crucial to achieving this ambitious goal while also contributing to national energy security and sustainability.
The state’s new industrial policy offers various incentives to attract investments. In addition to boosting renewable energy production, the initiative is set to create new employment opportunities in the green energy sector.
