Countrywide Hydrogen, a subsidiary of ReNu Energy, secures an $8 million funding deal with the Tasmanian Liberal Government, marking a significant stride towards Tasmania’s emergence as a leader in green hydrogen production.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government’s Green Hydrogen Price Reduction Scheme underscores its commitment to fostering a thriving hydrogen sector. Premier Jeremy Rockliff emphasizes the pivotal role of this initiative in realizing Tasmania’s vision of becoming a green hydrogen hub.
Countrywide Hydrogen’s ambitious plan involves producing hydrogen at multiple locations across Tasmania, targeting the heavy transport sector and industrial applications. The initial focus will be on establishing a hydrogen production and refueling facility in Brighton, with plans for expansion into the north and north-west regions.
With an initial investment of over $60 million in the state over the next three years, the Countrywide Project holds the promise of injecting significant capital into Tasmania’s regional and local economies. Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, highlights the alignment of this agreement with Tasmania’s Renewable Hydrogen Action Plan.
The funding scheme, based on a per kilogram basis of green hydrogen sold to end-users, aims to bridge the gap between production costs and market prices. By ensuring a stable sale price for green hydrogen, the scheme seeks to stimulate both supply and demand, advancing Tasmania’s renewable energy objectives.
