Cummins Unveils Next-Gen Hydrogen Engine at Intermat 2024

Cummins, a global leader in power solutions, is set to showcase its cutting-edge hydrogen engine technology at Intermat 2024, marking a significant leap in the company’s commitment to fuel diversification within internal combustion engines.

The unveiling of the new B6.7H hydrogen engine platform, a part of Cummins’ Destination Zero strategy, underscores the company’s dedication to achieving higher performance, efficiency, and compatibility with cleaner fuels without compromising operational aspects.

This innovation allows the engine to seamlessly operate on clean diesel, biodiesel, natural gas, or hydrogen. The consistent mounting and space requirements ensure compatibility across diverse fuel options, making it a versatile solution for the construction industry.

Maintaining a standardized main engine block while adapting the head and fuel system for different fuels reduces complexity for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and end-users. The B6.7H can be integrated into existing equipment alongside conventional diesel engines, utilizing the same transmission, cooling systems, and hydraulic systems. This approach streamlines maintenance practices and costs, ensuring a smooth transition to cleaner fuels.

Intermat attendees will be introduced to the B6.7H hydrogen engine, designed for a spectrum of off-highway machinery with a remarkable top rating of 290 horsepower and a peak torque of 1,200 Newton-meters. The engine’s robust hydrogen combustion capabilities are tailored for the demanding operating conditions encountered in construction and quarrying applications.

Cummins’ existing B6.7 engine has established itself as a market leader. The unveiling of the B6.7H hydrogen engine signifies Cummins’ commitment to continuous innovation, enhancing capabilities, and delivering value to customers while addressing environmental concerns.

The deployment of hydrogen engines in construction machinery aligns with the broader industry shift towards sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. The B6.7H offers a tangible solution for construction companies seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a greener future.
