De Nora will provide a 1 MW Dragonfly electrolyzer for Maffei Sarda Silicati’s hydrogen valley in Sardinia.
Funded by the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan, this project is set to enhance green energy production in Ossi, Sassari. Maffei Sarda Silicati, operating in raw material processing for ceramics and glass, will utilize the Dragonfly electrolyzer in a new hydrogen facility. The project receives 5.25 million euros by focusing on renewable hydrogen production from disused industrial sites.
Set on a repurposed industrial site in Ossi, the facility will produce approximately 50 tons of hydrogen annually. This green hydrogen aims to replace part of the fossil fuel currently used in Maffei Sarda Silicati’s production, leading to significant decarbonization benefits. A new 1.5 MW photovoltaic park will power the electrolysis plant.
The project has been supported from its inception by Ossi’s mayor and local authorities who are also facilitating the necessary permits. Beyond benefiting Maffei Sarda Silicati, green hydrogen has potential for broader applications in sustainable mobility, industry, electricity production, and heating, enhancing Sardinia’s decarbonization efforts.
