Industrie De Nora S.p.A. has made a significant stride in the green hydrogen industry. As a key partner in the European project “HyTecHeat,” alongside prominent entities like Snam and Tenova, De Nora is spearheading the adoption of innovative hybrid technologies to foster low CO2 emissions in steel production.

The cornerstone of this venture is the introduction of the revolutionary 1MW Dragonfly on-site electrolytic hydrogen generation system by De Nora. This cutting-edge system is heralded as a game-changer in addressing emissions in sectors notorious for their challenges in emission reduction.

The HyTecHeat project, part of the Horizon Europe program funded by the European Union with approximately 3.3 million euros, focuses on leveraging hybrid technologies to make steel reheating sustainable. Steel production processes are traditionally energy-intensive and have a substantial environmental impact. By integrating the Dragonfly system, which facilitates a greater utilization of low-carbon hydrogen in these processes, the project aims to significantly reduce the environmental footprint associated with the heat treatment and heating stages, historically reliant on natural gas.

De Nora’s Dragonfly electrolyzer marks a paradigm shift in hydrogen generation technology. Leveraging the company’s extensive expertise in electrode design and production, this innovative product embodies superior performance, underpinned by the utilization of De Nora’s proprietary DSA electrodes that ensure optimal efficiency.

Moreover, the electrolyzer caters to a diverse array of industries requiring on-site hydrogen generation, including chemical, pharmaceutical, biogas, oleochemical, and refinery sectors. Its compact design enables seamless integration at customer facilities, offering a sustainable solution tailored to specific industry needs. Following over a year of rigorous testing at an industrial site and obtaining all requisite certifications, the Dragonfly system is now being deployed for the first time in a project of European significance.
