DEWA and ENOC sign MoU on hydrogen in mobility

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and HE Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of ENOC Group, in the presence of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, HE Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, and HE Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State

This proposed project will benefit from ENOC’s market expertise and customer reach as well as DEWA’s current green hydrogen production facility in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

On the first day of the 2023 World Government Summit, the MoU was signed. Representatives from DEWA, Enoc, and the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy were present at the signing event.

This year’s Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28), which the UAE will host, is supported by the MoU. The project includes a feasibility study for constructing a hydrogen fueling station, helping to achieve the objectives of the Dubai Green Mobility Initiative 2030, which seeks to promote the use of environmentally friendly modes of transportation. It also supports the national hydrogen vehicle system, which seeks to grow the hydrogen economy in the United Arab Emirates and expand local markets for hydrogen-powered vehicles.

HE “DEWA and ENOC Group have a strategic partnership that supports the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote Dubai’s position as a global model in sustainability and green transformation,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA. In order to meet the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net-zero Carbon Strategy 2050, which call for 100% of energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050, we are happy to sign this MoU with ENOC Group to use green hydrogen, one of the environmentally friendly energy sources and one of the pillars of a sustainable future.

The Green Hydrogen project is in line with Dubai’s firm commitment to sustainability, its unwavering support for energy and climate change issues, and our vision to be “A globally leading sustainable innovative corporation committed to achieving net zero by 2050.” It also supports the UAE’s hosting of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). By promoting innovation, research, and development in energy storage technologies, such as green hydrogen, which many refer to as the “fuel of the future” and which will play a significant role not only in the global energy mix but also in reducing the effects of global warming, we are steadily preparing a roadmap for a green hydrogen strategy that will be implemented in phases.

The Honorable “ENOC Group’s relationship with DEWA follows His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s declaration of 2023 as the “Year of Sustainability,” according to Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group CEO of ENOC. It also fits with the Dubai Economic Agenda, or “D33,” that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, declared. The agreement supports the Group’s initiatives to foster public-private collaborations in order to realize Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050, establish a green economy, and drive the adoption of sustainable energy options.

“We are delighted to deepen our connection with the authority given the tireless efforts made by DEWA in the areas of sustainability and the provision of environmentally friendly energy solutions. The ENOC Group is dedicated to supplying energy and continuing to assist the UAE’s energy transition initiatives. The Group’s assistance in building hydrogen fueling stations is due to its considerable industry knowledge and the crucial role ENOC plays in the UAE’s fuel supply system, according to HE Al Falasi.
