The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is backing a pilot project for renewable hydrogen production in Uzbekistan.

This initiative is part of a larger effort to diversify the country’s energy sources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project will explore sustainable methods for hydrogen production, making use of Uzbekistan’s abundant solar and wind resources.

As the first of its kind in the region, the pilot aims to demonstrate the feasibility and economic viability of green hydrogen. The project is expected to serve as a model for future renewable hydrogen ventures in Central Asia and beyond.

To achieve these aspirations, the EBRD will provide financial and technical support. This includes conducting feasibility studies, providing investments, and ensuring that the technology used aligns with international best practices. The initiative illustrates Uzbekistan’s commitment to advancing its renewable energy sector and contributes to the global effort to transition toward more sustainable energy systems.

The move is also expected to attract further investment in Uzbekistan’s renewable energy market. By showcasing the potential of green hydrogen, the project could pave the way for larger-scale implementations that harness the region’s renewable resources more effectively.
