California-based El Dorado National (ENC), a subsidiary of REV Group, has secured an order for 19 Axess EVO-FC hydrogen fuel cell buses from Foothill Transit, a prominent public transit provider in California.
Foothill Transit currently operates a fleet of 359 buses, including various zero-emission models, serving the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, which encompass Pasadena and downtown Los Angeles. With the addition of the Axess EVO-FC buses, Foothill Transit aims to uphold its commitment to operating a 100% zero-emissions bus fleet.
The Axess EVO-FC buses from ENC are powered by the industry’s highest-capacity fuel cell and the BAE Systems® Gen3 electric propulsion system. This cutting-edge combination enables the buses to achieve an industry-leading range of up to 400 miles. Additionally, the buses can be refueled in just 12-20 minutes and emit only water, making them exceptionally eco-friendly. ENC’s dedication to low or no emission technology is evident as the company became the first bus manufacturer to successfully complete the 12-year/500,000 miles FTA Altoona test for a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric-powered bus in 2018.
Mike Ammann, the Vice President of Sales at ENC, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership with Foothill Transit, stating, “The Axess EVO-FC is the perfect addition to Foothill Transit’s zero-emissions fleet.” Ammann further emphasized ENC’s commitment to leading the industry in next-generation alternative fuel buses that contribute to the sustainable operations of transit authorities nationwide.
