The world’s first manufacturing facility for Electriq Powder, a solid hydrogen carrier, will be built at the Port of Amsterdam thanks to a partnership between Electriq, a provider of end-to-end safe hydrogen solutions, and Zenith Energy Terminals.

In last-mile, off-grid, and backup applications, Electriq Powder behaves like regular detergent powder, making storage, transportation, and use of hydrogen simpler. Comparing Electriq Powder to compressed and liquified hydrogen, the former offers greater safety and energy density. Through the use of a specialized, small release unit, hydrogen is released from the powder and converted into power.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by the parties to build Electriq’s first powder factory at Zenith Energy’s terminal in Amsterdam. The arrangement covers the creation of green hydrogen using locally located wind turbines owned by Zenith to produce sustainable energy.

“This plant is the first of its kind in the world and will serve our customers in the Benelux market”, says Baruch Halpert, Executive Chairman and CEO of Electriq. “The Netherlands is an early adopter of hydrogen as the fuel of the 21st century, and we see this Electriq Powder plant as a key enabler to leverage this in innovative, safe and industrial manner”.

By forming similar agreements in other regions, Electriq is currently working to significantly increase its powder manufacturing capacity to support its intended development into global markets.
