Element 2 has formed a strategic partnership with fuel card provider Radius and its UK Fuels network to accelerate the accessibility of hydrogen across the UK.

The collaboration aims to provide seamless access to hydrogen fuel for over 100,000 commercial fleet customers, including car and van operators, through the existing UK Fuels network. Element 2’s mission is to simplify the transition to zero-emission vehicles for fleet operators by leveraging the same locations and payment solutions used for diesel fuel. The partnership will involve the development of a network of hydrogen refueling solutions, combining mobile and permanent refueling options. Customers will be able to make payments using their existing UK Fuels cards. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the shift towards achieving net-zero emissions and facilitate the development of the UK’s hydrogen network.

The strategic partnership between Element 2, Radius, and the UK Fuels network is an important step in accelerating the adoption of hydrogen as a sustainable fuel for commercial fleets. By utilizing the existing infrastructure and payment systems, fleet operators can seamlessly transition to hydrogen fuel without significant changes to their operations. The collaboration will provide an extensive network of hydrogen refueling solutions across the UK, enabling convenient access for a large number of commercial customers.

Dr. Andrew Hagan, Chief Development Officer at Element 2, highlighted the importance of hydrogen in mitigating electricity grid constraints and complementing the existing charging infrastructure in the UK. Element 2 aims to produce fuel cell-grade green hydrogen from renewable sources such as wind, waste, biomass, and water treatment. By supplying hydrogen to various vehicle types, including trucks, vans, buses, and cars, Element 2 contributes to the decarbonization of different sectors.

Jonathan Haseler, Managing Director of Radius in the UK, Ireland, and Southeast Asia, emphasized the importance of supporting fleet customers in meeting their green transport targets. The addition of hydrogen to the UK Fuels network aligns with the company’s strategy to enable businesses to operate normally while transitioning to carbon-friendly solutions. The simplicity and convenience offered by the extensive network of UK Fuels will facilitate the adoption of hydrogen by fleet operators, contributing to the overall goal of achieving a more sustainable transport system.

This partnership between Element 2, Radius, and the UK Fuels network demonstrates the collaborative efforts of multiple stakeholders to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen infrastructure. By leveraging existing resources, such as fuel sites and payment solutions, the transition to hydrogen becomes more accessible and seamless. The widespread adoption of hydrogen as a clean fuel for commercial fleets has the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the overall decarbonization of the transportation sector.
