Essar, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to initiate a 1 Gigawatt (GW) green hydrogen project in the Gujarat. This transformative endeavor entails an estimated investment of Rs 30,000 crore, marking a pivotal moment in India’s pursuit of sustainable energy solutions.

Beyond the green hydrogen frontier, Essar’s strategic focus extends to augmenting its influence in Gujarat through additional investments. A substantial Rs 16,000 crore injection is earmarked for the Phase-II expansion of the Salaya Power Plant, solidifying Essar’s commitment to bolstering the Power Generation sector. Furthermore, a forward-looking move unfolds with a Rs 10,000 crore investment to metamorphose the Salaya port into a dynamic logistics hub, emphasizing Essar’s multi-dimensional approach to economic growth.

Prashant Ruia, Director at Essar Capital, expressed unwavering confidence in Gujarat’s pivotal role in Essar’s strategic roadmap. With a stellar track record of over four decades and investments exceeding Rs 1 lakh crore in Gujarat’s Energy, Metals & Mining, and Infrastructure sectors, Essar emerges as a beacon of successful industrial integration in the state.

Beyond national borders, Essar has set its sights on global energy transition leadership. The formation of Essar Energy Transition (EET) signals a strategic move to establish the UK’s premier energy transition hub in North West England. EET envisions a substantial investment of $3.6 billion over the next five years, with $2.4 billion dedicated to the Stanlow site and $1.2 billion allocated for projects in India.

EET’s global supply hub for low carbon fuels in India, encompassing green hydrogen and green ammonia, is a testament to Essar’s commitment to sustainable practices. The plan involves shipping ammonia from India to the UK, Europe, and beyond, meeting the surging demand for green hydrogen on a global scale.

The signing of MOUs worth Rs 55,000 crore reinforces Essar’s dedication to Gujarat’s holistic growth. The initiative is not only a testament to Essar’s confidence in the state’s potential but also a significant catalyst for job creation, with an ambitious aim of generating over 10,000 employment opportunities.
