Exolum has launched the world’s first bulk transport and storage project for Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHC) in the United Kingdom, in partnership with Axiom.

The primary goal of Exolum’s LOHC project is to establish a robust infrastructure for storing and transporting hydrogen using organic compounds. By leveraging existing oil infrastructures, the project aims to demonstrate the viability of LOHCs as a scalable solution for large-scale hydrogen storage and distribution. This initiative aligns with Exolum’s commitment to accelerating the energy transition and facilitating the adoption of sustainable energy solutions.

Organic liquid hydrogen carriers serve as a promising alternative to conventional hydrogen storage methods. These compounds have the unique ability to absorb and release hydrogen through chemical reactions, enabling efficient and safe transportation. While previous projects have demonstrated the technical feasibility of LOHCs, Exolum’s pilot project will focus on testing the transportation and storage processes within existing oil infrastructure, thereby advancing the technology to new heights.
