Faurecia, the French auto supplier, will determine next year whether to develop an industrial facility in the United States to manufacture hydrogen tanks for fuel cell electric vehicles.

If verified, the location will initially house a testing facility and a pilot plant capable of generating limited quantities of hydrogen tanks.

Faurecia is in discussions with three major automakers in the North American market – General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis – to promote its hydrogen-powered electric pickup truck option, a representative said.

Hydrogen fuel cells generate power, emitting only water. Due to the high weight of the batteries in electric cars, hydrogen fuel cells are considered a more viable zero-emission power option for long-haul freight in the future.
