Terrestrial Energy USA has joined the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA), a national trade group for the rapidly expanding fuel cell and hydrogen industries.
FCHEA and Terrestrial Energy both agree that hydrogen has a lot of potential as a clean energy source for industrial and other applications that can help the economy decarbonize.
FCHEA, based in Washington, represents more than 80 hydrogen and fuel cell companies and organizations working to advance innovative, clean, safe, and reliable energy technologies. In industrial applications, such as the production of low-carbon steel, cement, or ammonia for fertilizer or fuels, there is a growing focus on using hydrogen as a replacement for fossil fuels. Green hydrogen can be produced using carbon-free energy sources such as nuclear and renewables, which can significantly reduce emissions in sectors other than power generation.
Terrestrial Energy is working on a Generation IV nuclear cogeneration plant that will provide high-temperature thermal power for a variety of industrial applications, including green hydrogen production and electricity generation. Its Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) uses proven fission technology in a novel small modular reactor (SMR) plant design to produce carbon-free, sustainable energy that is a cost-competitive alternative to burning fossil fuels.
