FFI Ionix, a subsidiary of the renowned green technology and energy giant Fortescue, has made a strategic decision to establish its operations in Dover, Delaware, signaling a significant step forward in the global advancement of the hydrogen economy.
The company, which specializes in hydrogen technologies, will transition from its current location in Harrington to a new facility situated at 60 Starlifter Avenue within Dover city limits. This move represents not only a physical expansion but also a commitment to fostering innovation and job growth in the region. With over 22,000 square feet dedicated to laboratory space in the nearly 57,000-square-foot facility, FFI Ionix aims to bolster its research and development capabilities to drive forward advancements in hydrogen technology.
While FFI Ionix now operates under the umbrella of Fortescue, its origins trace back to Delaware as Xergy, a company with a rich history of innovation in membrane and device technologies. Acquired by Fortescue in 2021 and rebranded as FFI Ionix, the company continues to build on its legacy of research and development excellence.
The decision to establish operations in Dover follows a thorough evaluation process, during which FFI Ionix considered various potential locations. The support provided by organizations such as the Delaware Prosperity Partnership, Kent Economic Partnership, and the City of Dover was instrumental in facilitating this decision. FFI Ionix’s commitment to Delaware is further underscored by its receipt of grants from the Council on Development Finance, including a Graduated Lab Space Grant and Jobs Performance and Retention Grants, totaling over $1.7 million.
