The government of Finland has approved a resolution on hydrogen that outlines the nation’s goals and the steps being taken to support them.
Finland has the capacity to produce at least 10% of the emissions-free hydrogen needed by the EU in 2030, and its government claims that the country wants to become the European leader in the hydrogen economy along the full value chain.
Land use planning, streamlined licensing processes, and a predictable working environment are among Finland’s competitive advantages, according to the government. It also emphasized the need for sufficient numbers of qualified workers to advance the hydrogen economy and the importance of safety in the creation and application of new hydrogen technologies.
The resolution supports the ongoing strategy work of the hydrogen cluster of businesses and is based on a government policy that was adopted in the government budget session in the fall of 2021 and states that a national hydrogen strategy and a subsequent government resolution will be prepared as part of the climate and energy strategy.
Numerous hydrogen-related initiatives are currently under way in Finland, notably the BalticSeaH2 hydrogen valley project between Finland and Estonia.
