First Hydrogen Starts Testing Hydrogen-Powered FCEV with Amazon

First Hydrogen recently achieved a milestone with the commencement of testing its hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle (FCEV) in collaboration with Amazon.

The FCEV underwent rigorous testing in London, covering a total distance of 535 km (332 miles) and successfully delivering 3,462 packages at 1,547 stops. Amazon confirmed the vehicle’s satisfactory performance during the tests, conducted in shifts of 8 to 10 hours with frequent stops. Notably, improvements in design and predictive behavior have been implemented to enhance payload capacity and overall performance.

Telematic data collected during the tests were analyzed by Amazon’s Data Science team to evaluate the FCEV’s performance under various conditions. Real-world measurements provided insights into energy efficiency, driver behavior, and vehicle range. Engineers from First Hydrogen and Amazon compared FCEVs with battery-powered electric vehicles and internal combustion engine vehicles, highlighting areas for further development.

First Hydrogen is leveraging predictive software to optimize energy distribution and system efficiency. By analyzing driving cycles, traffic conditions, and weather data, the company’s AI algorithm can determine the most efficient delivery routes in advance. This approach enhances vehicle efficiency and reduces overall energy consumption, contributing to sustainable transportation solutions.

The FCEV’s driving program offers customizable settings to optimize efficiency for different driving scenarios, including highway and city driving. Emphasizing regenerative braking and smooth acceleration, this feature minimizes hydrogen consumption, particularly during short and dynamic journeys with frequent stops.

To further reduce energy consumption, First Hydrogen plans to introduce a new operating mode that minimizes auxiliary power usage and automatically switches off the vehicle during extended stops. This innovative approach aims to enhance overall energy efficiency and extend the FCEV’s range between refueling.
