Fortescue alongside Genex Power, has announced an extension to their solar supply deal for the green hydrogen production facility at Gibson Island in Queensland.

The primary goal of the extended partnership between Fortescue and Genex Power is to facilitate the development of a state-of-the-art green hydrogen production facility at Gibson Island. By leveraging solar energy, Fortescue aims to produce up to 70,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, with the ultimate objective of generating up to 400,000 tonnes of green ammonia for export. This initiative aligns with global efforts to transition towards low-carbon and sustainable energy solutions, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and fostering environmental stewardship.

The cornerstone of this collaboration lies in the utilization of solar power to drive the electrolysis process, which separates hydrogen from water molecules, yielding green hydrogen as a clean energy source. By harnessing the abundant sunlight available in Queensland, Fortescue and Genex Power seek to establish a robust and efficient green hydrogen production infrastructure. This innovative approach not only reduces reliance on fossil fuels but also promotes the scalability and viability of renewable energy technologies.

The extension of the solar supply deal underscores the commitment of both Fortescue and Genex Power to advancing renewable energy adoption in Australia.
