Bekaert invests in Ionomr Innovations

Bekaert announces a USD 5 million equity investment in Ionomr Innovations. Ionomr Innovations, a Canadian company with its headquarters in Vancouver, is a pioneer in the creation and marketing of cutting-edge anion and proton exchange membranes for use in electrolyzers used in the production of green hydrogen. The development of AEM electrolyzer components has been the primary focus of both businesses’ significant collaboration.

Bekaert’s equity investment will help Ionomr grow its manufacturing capacity to better serve its clients and enhance its R&D capabilities in Rochester, US.


Bacardi manufactures liquor bottle with glass furnace powered by hydrogen

The first manufacturing run of a liquor bottle made with a glass furnace powered by hydrogen has been completed by Bacardi.

The massive spirits company, whose brands include Patron, Grey Goose, and Bombay Sapphire, collaborated with Slovenian glass manufacturer Hrastnik1860 to investigate innovative technologies for glass manufacturing.

150,000 glass bottles of the brand’s 70cl St Germain elderflower liqueur were made throughout the trial. According to Bacardi, more than 60% of the fuel used in the glass furnace was hydrogen, which reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 30%.


Brazil signs Declaration of Intent for hydrogen certification standards

Brazil is one of the more than 30 nations that signed the COP28 Declaration of Intent for the mutual recognition of certification standards for hydrogen derivatives and low-carbon and renewable hydrogen last Wednesday, June 12.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has signed the declaration, which acknowledges the importance of certification in multilateral cooperation to open up international trade in hydrogen and derivatives.


City of Owen Sound joins CHFCA

The City of Owen Sound is pleased to inform the Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) of its new membership. This strategic alliance is a component of Owen Sound’s larger campaign to support clean energy practices and technologies.

The City’s Community & Business Development Manager, Paul McGrath, recently attended the Hydrogen Business Council Conference in Toronto, which featured the most recent developments and conversations in hydrogen technology. This was the event that preceded the decision to join the CHFCA. The city’s determination to remain at the forefront of clean energy innovation and its desire to have a significant influence on the development of hydrogen technology are demonstrated by this involvement.


DNV green lights GTT’s LH2 containment system

The top classification society, DNV, has given GTT two Approvals in Principle (AIP) for the design of a membrane-type liquefied hydrogen (LH2) containment system and for the initial concept design of an LH2 carrier. The project’s next phases are made possible by these permissions, which are a component of the deal with Shell that was revealed in February 2022.

One of the technological obstacles to building a dependable, effective, and competitive hydrogen supply chain is the capacity to transport very large volumes of hydrogen in liquefied form at -253°C as part of the energy transition to a carbon-free future.

The initial LH2 carrier design and GTT’s technological advancements in LH2 containment are validated by the approvals in principle granted by DNV.


Voith Composites’ hydrogen capacity tank gets approval

According to certification requirements, Voith Composites has declared that their Type IV 700 bar and 350 liter hydrogen capacity tank has been authorized.

The hydrogen storage tank Carbon4Tank has been authorized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and is now ready to be used in heavy-duty trucks and other commercial vehicles.

The towpreg-wound hydrogen tanks from Voith have demonstrated the product and production maturity and are now prepared for serial manufacturing in accordance with UNECE R 134. Prominent truck manufacturers have already included the tanks into their vehicles.


Western Australia Premier shuffles Cabinet to oversee hydrogen

Premier of Western Australia, Roger Cook, reorganized his Cabinet on Thursday in anticipation of the 2025 elections, and he will now oversee the hydrogen sector under his State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade portfolio.

CEO Rebecca Tomkinson of the Chamber of Minerals and Energy (CME) says the Premier’s addition of Hydrogen to his portfolio demonstrates his appreciation of Western Australia’s strategic relevance in the energy transformation.

Bill Johnson, who resigned, had previously held the hydrogen portfolio. He will divide his other portfolios among several seasoned Ministers.
