Bergen Engines works on Norway’s longest hydrogen ferry connection

The world’s largest hydrogen boats will be powered by four generating sets from Bergen Engines, a Norwegian power solutions provider, and will operate on Norway’s longest ferry connection, which runs from Bodø to Lofoten.

Low carbon Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) will power the C25:33L8A generating sets, which will supply backup power to the hydrogen fuel cells that power the vessel’s propulsion system.

These new ferries are expected to be delivered in 2026 and will run on a hybrid fuel blend consisting of 15% biofuel from Bergen’s C25:33 engines and 85% hydrogen fuel cells.

BWR Innovations to deliver PEM fuel cells for Hawaii military installation

A storied military installation in Hawaii has hired BWR Innovations to provide integration skills for a future hydrogen fuel cell microgrid project.

The two-year subcontract was awarded to BWR Innovations by Global Connective Center LLC as a part of an agreement with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The goal of the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Microgrid (H2MG) project is to demonstrate the performance and viability of a solar-hydrogen (H2) storage and off-take system through research, development, testing, and assessment.

The idea is to create and maintain island-capable microgrids that can function and continue to supply electricity in the case of a complete grid failure.
