Turkey is on the list of Germany’s green hydrogen supplier countries, in keeping with the country’s new hydrogen policy, according to Markus C. Slevogt, the chairman of the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Turkey).
Green hydrogen is created by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen with an electrolyzer fueled by renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.
In 2020, the German government issued a national hydrogen strategy with the slogan “We are making Germany a hydrogen country.” Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economics and Transport said in mid-May that it will invest €8 billion in the development of 62 large-scale hydrogen projects.
According to this policy, Germany expects hydrogen demand to rise from 90 to 110 terawatt-hours (TWh) by 2030. Referring to Turkey’s potential, the country may expand on the energy collaboration formed between Germany and Turkey in 2012 into a long-term and reliable supply agreement.
AHK Turkey, the institution at the heart of this energy collaboration, should be considered for assisting in the establishment of a German-Turkish industry network to enhance the hydrogen sector and ease joint investments.
