GH2 and Bordeaux Port have announced the signing of an agreement to construct the largest renewable hydrogen production and conversion facility in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region of France.

The GH2 project aims to generate up to 14,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen each year while also avoiding up to 130,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

The GH2 project in Ambès is one of the largest projects of its kind in France and Europe, with a total electrolysis capacity of 100MW. It fits perfectly into the dynamics initiated by the French government through its Recovery Plan, as well as the European Union through the Innovation Fund and the Green Deal.

The GH2 project is strategically situated in the port area near Bordeaux, in the heart of the industrial platform dedicated to chemicals and hydrocarbons, in the town of Ambès, alongside the Garonne river, after three years of conceptualization and structuring.

The GH2 project in Ambès symbolizes the emergence of a national and European hydrogen sector at scale, and contributes concretely to the energy transition, by incorporating an electrochemical plant for the production of hydrogen and ammonia, as well as a plant for the production of renewable electricity from photovoltaic sources, from its inception.

In this regard, the GH2 project near Bordeaux complements other local initiatives, especially those related to the circular economy and hydrogen, which the Bordeaux Port and its partners are carrying out.
