Governor Tom Wolf signed legislation granting around $2 billion in tax credits to firms involved in hydrogen generating, milk processing, semiconductor manufacturing, and petrochemicals.
Wolf defended his administration’s initiatives to combat climate change while praising hydrogen’s ability to reduce carbon emissions.
The tax credit package, known as the PA EDGE program, aims to attract a hydrogen hub to Pennsylvania by granting up to $50 million in tax credits each year to companies who buy hydrogen produced in Pennsylvania as well as those that buy natural gas to produce hydrogen.
The proposal allocates a total of $1 billion in tax credits exclusively for hydrogen over a 20-year period. Under the PA Edge program, tax credits of $1.97 billion will be allowed over a 25-year period for the manufacture of fertilizer, semiconductors, petrochemicals, and milk.
