The green hydrogen project of the company EDP for Los Barrios (Cádiz) has been included in the first round of aid for the development of green hydrogen in Spain and will receive EUR 3.6 million from the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), which is under the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
The company EDP explained in a statement that it is receiving support from the Pioneers program’s Strategic Projects for Recovery and Economic Transformation (PERTE) targeted at renewable energies, renewable hydrogen, and storage (ERHA).
The IDAE has been the project with the second-best valuation within the Pioneers program and has proposed a grant of 3.6 million euros to develop 5 MW of electrolyzers in the Los Barrios plant.
This new recognition for EDP’s Los Barrios project, which the European Commission has identified as strategically important for the energy transition, supports the company’s efforts to convert its thermal power plants into locations connected to renewable energies, green hydrogen, energy storage, and the adaptability of the electricity system.
