Applications for the Regional Green Hydrogen Hubs Program of the federal government are now open.
Eligible consortia are encouraged to submit applications for matching grants valued between $30 million and $70 million that is intended to encourage investment in the area.
The federal government announced grant guidelines in January and cited Townsville’s port capabilities, workforce potential, and closeness to Asian trading partners as reasons why it would make an excellent location for a green hydrogen center.
According to the program’s summary, such hubs “co-locate producers and users of hydrogen in metropolitan, regional, and distant areas,” which is thought of “as a cost-effective approach to gaining scale” for the developing green hydrogen industry.
Projects must be completed by March 31, 2027, be delivered within the Townsville region, and have qualifying expenditures totaling at least $60 million.
Applicants are evaluated in two stages, starting with initial expressions of interest and ending with stage two invitations for full proposals.
Applications close at 5 pm on April 27.
