Hyliko has announced its commitment to the Retrofit H2 Coalition.

This coalition brings together over thirty contributors involved in the Multi-Modal Transport (MRT) value chain. Its aim? To industrialize the hydrogen retrofit of heavy vehicles, thus accelerating their deployment across French territories.

Hyliko’s offering is comprehensive – it ranges from the rental and maintenance of hydrogen vehicles to the provision of green hydrogen through a network of stations, including the traceability of the carbon footprint. This aligns with the company’s dedication to enabling cleaner, zero-emission transport.

“Hydrogen retrofit is of paramount importance, especially since, at present, no historical truck manufacturer in France offers new hydrogen-compatible vehicles,” Hyliko said in a statement. The retrofitting of existing vehicles, therefore, becomes a necessary stepping-stone to fast-track the transition toward zero-emission mobility. This strategy aligns directly with France’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Pioneering the First Retrofitted Hydrogen Trucks

As it awaits the arrival of new hydrogen vehicles to expand its offering, Hyliko began 2023 with an ambitious initiative – retrofitting diesel vehicles into hydrogen vehicles, a process that involves a comprehensive overhaul of their design.

By the end of 2023, thanks to strategic partnerships with design and assembly specialists, Hyliko is set to deliver the first retrofitted hydrogen vehicles from France to its transport customers. This achievement positions Hyliko as a pioneer in France’s transition towards clean, hydrogen-based transportation.

These efforts by Hyliko represent a strategic approach to meet the demand for hydrogen vehicles in France, especially as no original equipment manufacturer (OEM) currently offers hydrogen-compatible trucks. The move also makes a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions, a critical global objective in the face of climate change.

Hyliko’s retrofit initiative is a significant step forward in not only advancing hydrogen technology but also in promoting sustainable practices within the heavy-duty vehicle sector. As we anticipate the arrival of the first retrofitted hydrogen vehicles in France, Hyliko is demonstrating that innovation and sustainability can pave the way for a greener future.
