Hyzon and GreenWaste Partnership Hyzon, a US-based hydrogen fuel cell system manufacturer, has entered into a significant partnership with GreenWaste.

The agreement involves supplying North America’s first 12 hydrogen-powered Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) for refuse collection. This marks GreenWaste as the pioneer operator of a hydrogen refuse fleet in the region. Hyzon recently announced producing its 200-kilowatt fuel cell system, which will support the commercialization of such technologies.

Hyzon CEO Parker Meeks emphasized the importance of this collaboration, identifying it as a transformative step in the waste industry’s trucking sector. The development of hydrogen-powered refuse collection reflects the increasing demand driven by Hyzon’s cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cells. With this initiative, Hyzon and GreenWaste lead the change toward sustainable waste management solutions.

The new hydrogen-powered trucks align with GreenWaste’s sustainability mission to lower emissions significantly. These vehicles promise zero tailpipe emissions, essential to achieving GreenWaste’s 2030 target to cut Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 45% from their 2022 baseline. As of 2023, GreenWaste has already attained a 36.3% reduction in emissions. The purchase agreement followed a successful trial of Hyzon’s refuse FCEV, indicating promising results in payload capacity, can-lifts, and operational range through several trial routes in the Bay Area.
