H2Carrier and Statkraft will investigate the usage of H2Carrier’s one-of-a-kind green ammonia floating production vessel, the P2XFloater, in selected offshore wind areas.

This new study’s objective is to assess the effectiveness of the P2XFloater in a real offshore setting. The project will evaluate the difficulties associated with running electrolyzers and an ammonia production process under changeable load conditions offshore. The P2XFloater will use renewable energy to generate green ammonia and green hydrogen, which can then be exported to foreign markets.

The Norwegian engineering firm KANFA and its parent business Technip Energies will perform the study alongside H2Carrier.

The P2XFloater concept is built on tried-and-true floating production, storage, and off-take technology, as well as pressurized and temperature-controlled tank technology. It also includes an e-control system that can balance renewable electricity feedstock through our fully integrated PEM and Haber-Bosch system.

The production platform P2XFloater has a completely scalable annual production capacity of 100 000 to 230 000 tonnes of green ammonia.

The P2XFloater has recently been given Approval in Principle (AiP) by DNV for use in near-shore production. The P2XFloater will help increase an offshore wind installation’s power flexibility and lessen its reliance on the grid and export cable infrastructure.
