At the world’s most significant industrial trade expo, which is being hosted on-site for the first time since the epidemic, the metropolitan region is showcasing solutions throughout the whole value chain. Twelve hydrogen initiatives in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region that have been designated as so-called Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI Hydrogen) for considerable funding from the European Union are the center of attention in Hall 13 (Stand D58). High-performance networks in many areas, such as the Green Hydrogen Hub Hamburg, the Wiplin aviation project, and the HH-Win infrastructure project in Hamburg, are examples.
The green hydrogen area becomes palpable thanks to an interactive touch table
An interactive touch table is the visual focal point of Hamburg’s trade show display. Hamburg can now promote the benefits of the metropolitan region and give background information on significant initiatives and stakeholders in the city with this innovative new gadget. There are insights into hydrogen advances in a variety of industrial areas, including aviation, marine, and logistics. “This year, we made the deliberate decision to participate in the trade show’s newly created ‘Hydrogen Hall’ to bring Hamburg and northern Germany as a whole closer to the international industry – as a pioneering region of green hydrogen,” said Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, Managing Director of Hamburg Invest, who is in charge of the trade show presentation with his team.
Hamburg is already one of Europe’s leading hydrogen locations, with a wide range of applications ranging from hydrogen generation, electrolysis, and industrial usage, to network infrastructure development and hydrogen imports, to the sustainable mobility of ships, airplanes, and commercial vehicles. The region also gets marks for being a vital center for import logistics and for developing a short-distance hydrogen sector.
Hamburg is setting the bar for traffic-related applications
According to Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics and Innovation, the north will set standards in the climate-friendly conversion of the industry with wind power and hydrogen in the future “With the implementation of the North German and National Hydrogen Strategies, the first significant steps have been taken. Now we need a quick market ramp-up and application scaling-up.”
According to an OECD research, northern Germany is particularly well suited for a green hydrogen industry. The region offers distinct geographical advantages for producing renewable energies and a large potential for acquiring hydrogen, particularly from local industrial firms. Thanks to the North German Hydrogen Strategy, the area is well-positioned to achieve climate protection targets and a sustainable energy transition in Germany.
