EnergyNews.Biz is honored to announce that it will serve as a media partner for the forthcoming Hydrogen-Africa Conference and Expo, which will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on September 28 and 29, 2022, as well as a number of events in other African nations.

Africa may be able to supply hydrogen, a low-cost, low-carbon energy source, to the entire world.

Realizing this promise requires Africa’s wealth of renewable resources, particularly solar energy and also onshore wind.  Africa could produce “world total energy supply,” or 5,000 megatonnes of hydrogen annually, for less than $2 per kilogram.

One of the biggest potential markets for producing hydrogen from cheap renewable power is Africa. Only 1% of the world’s solar generation capacity is in Africa, despite the continent having 60% of the world’s best solar resources.

Wind power is still another crucial source. Particularly in North Africa, the Horn of Africa, and Southern Africa, dry and semi-arid environments are ideal for wind and solar energy.

Africa will be able to produce 80% of the additional electricity it needs by 2030 using renewable energy sources including solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, and others.

The potential for hydrogen in Africa is expected to increase as the cost of solar panels and hydrogen generation decreases. As a result, hydrogen in Africa costs $2 per kilogram, which is less than half what hydrogen does elsewhere in the world.
