Hexagon Energy Materials signs MoU with FRV Services

Hexagon Energy Materials has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FRV Services Australia, a well-known, large-scale renewable energy firm.

This Memorandum of Understanding involves a partnership for the construction of a prospective clean hydrogen hub in Middle Arm, Darwin, Northern Territory; a new potential North Western Australian Hydrogen Hub; and additional collaborations throughout Australia.

Hexagon and FRV Australia worked together as consortium partners on an AusIndustry funding proposal for a Middle Arm, Darwin, Hydrogen Hub Feasibility Study in November 2021.

The proposal was submitted as part of the “Activating a Regional Hydrogen Industry – Clean Hydrogen Industrial Hubs: Hub Development and Design initiative,” which resulted in this Memorandum of Understanding and further cooperation.

Hexagon and FRV Australia are both working on clean hydrogen and renewable energy projects in or around Middle Arm, Darwin, both of which is fully financed for pre-feasibility studies. FRV Australia has also received funds for additional research and the building phase of its hydrogen and renewable energy project.

Hexagon may be able to access FRV Australia’s variety of renewable energy products through the MoU announced today, which might provide the electricity necessary for Hexagon’s projected hydrogen (clean Ammonia) manufacturing plant. Hexagon’s blue hydrogen production facilities would emit less CO2, necessitating less CCS, cutting total production costs for Hexagon’s projects.

“We have been reviewing all possibilities available to develop our NT (Pedirka) Hydrogen project,” Hexagon Managing Director Merrill Gray stated. This Memorandum of Understanding represents a potentially significant step forward in realizing efficiencies and increasing the commercial viability of our base case decarbonised ammonia plant.”

“This Memorandum of Understanding with FRV Australia is one of many important opportunities and collaborations, both in the NT and elsewhere, that will help us achieve our goal of establishing the most practical pathway for Hexagon to achieve large-scale, long-term, commercial, clean hydrogen production in Australia,” Ms. Gray said.

The next phase will be to identify and scope individual hydrogen projects so that conditional Heads of Agreement and binding commercial agreements may be reached.

Hexagon is a renewable energy materials firm that focuses on hydrogen as a cornerstone of the clean energy transition. Hexagon also owns the McIntosh Nickel-Copper Project, the PGE Graphite Project, and the Halls Creek Gold and Base Metals Project, in addition to the NT Hydrogen and WA Hydrogen projects.

Over the next four years, the Company’s objective for its Australian hydrogen business is to offer clean hydrogen in the most cost-effective form to export and local markets at scale. This non-binding memorandum of understanding with FRV has the potential to produce huge amounts of low-cost renewable energy for use in hydrogen generation, assisting delivery of this aim.
