HPS Home Power Solutions Unleashes Hydrogen Power for Homes

HPS Home Power Solutions AG has recognized this need and introduced an impressive upgrade to its Picea system. The Picea 2, a hydrogen-based electricity storage solution designed for residential use, promises to be a game-changer in the world of home energy storage.

The Picea 2 is not just an incremental improvement; it’s a leap forward. With a robust 15 kW capacity, it offers a substantial 1,500 kWh of storage, doubling the system output to cater to the increasing usage of electric cars and heat pumps. As our homes become more electrified and we shift toward sustainable transportation, the demand for reliable and efficient energy storage solutions is greater than ever.

But HPS Home Power Solutions didn’t stop there. They’ve enhanced the system’s capabilities by increasing the maximum connected load for photovoltaic (PV) systems. This means your solar panels can be even more productive, harnessing additional clean energy for your home.

One notable improvement is the Picea 2’s reduced size and weight. It’s now 70% lighter than its predecessor, making installation easier and more versatile. The overall height is lower, allowing it to be installed in rooms with low ceilings, addressing a common limitation in many residential spaces.

This system doesn’t just store energy; it generates and regenerates it efficiently. The Picea 2 is equipped with new and more efficient power electronics, ensuring that every drop of energy is optimized to meet your power needs.

The Picea devices act as seasonal storage solutions for solar power. During the sun-drenched summer months, an integrated electrolyzer comes to life, converting excess energy from your PV system into green hydrogen, which is then stored on-site. When winter’s chill arrives, the system’s clever design reverses the process, transforming hydrogen back into electricity using fuel cell technology.

It’s a perfect synergy of renewable energy and hydrogen, providing homeowners with a reliable, sustainable, and versatile power source.

HPS Home Power Solutions is not just committed to innovation; it’s also focused on partnerships and market growth. In a recent financing round, they successfully raised €22 million ($23.4 million) earlier this year. Zeyad Abul-Ella, CEO of HPS Home Power Solutions, emphasized their collaborative approach, stating, “Our growth strategy is to reach the market together with installation companies as quickly as possible. With all the improvements, especially those that make the installation process easier, we have created important conditions for long-term partnerships.”

The Picea 2 is more than a home energy storage solution; it’s a testament to our ongoing pursuit of greener, more sustainable energy sources. As we navigate the challenges of a changing climate, innovations like the Picea 2 play a crucial role in ensuring we have clean, reliable power at our fingertips.
