Hysata, Australia’s leading electrolyser company, has signed a landmark agreement with ACWA Power to demonstrate its high-efficiency capillary-fed electrolysis technology in Saudi Arabia.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward commercializing Hysata’s innovative electrolysers, which require just 41.5 kWh of electricity to produce one kilogram of hydrogen—a benchmark that could redefine the economics of green hydrogen production.

The agreement, signed during ACWA Power’s Innovation Days in Riyadh, leverages ACWA Power’s expertise in large-scale capital projects, including its 2.2-gigawatt NEOM green hydrogen project. NEOM, already over 60% complete, is poised to become the world’s largest utility-scale hydrogen project, producing 600 tonnes of hydrogen daily by 2026.

The technology’s potential is particularly significant in regions like the Middle East, where abundant renewable energy resources and ambitious hydrogen investments create an ideal environment for green hydrogen production. ACWA Power’s extensive experience in executing large-scale projects at a rapid pace further enhances the viability of this partnership.

Saudi Arabia has emerged as a global leader in green hydrogen, driven by its low-cost renewable energy capacity, favorable incentives, and strategic investments. The NEOM project, for instance, exemplifies the region’s commitment to establishing itself as a hydrogen powerhouse.
