Hyundai Motor North America has partnered with Equilon Enterprises LLC, better known as Shell Hydrogen, to promote the expansion of California’s hydrogen refueling infrastructure.
Beginning in 2021, Shell Hydrogen will build 48 additional and two enhanced hydrogen refueling stations around the eco-friendly Golden State as part of Project Neptune. Hyundai has pledged to increasing fuel cell car sales to support the growing hydrogen infrastructure as part of its agreement.

The expansion of hydrogen refueling infrastructure is essential for accelerating consumer acceptance of zero-emission fuel cell cars. Hyundai reaffirms its commitment to fuel cell technologies and their beneficial environmental effect by joining Project Neptune, a fundamental pillar of its long-term strategic goal. The California Energy Commission will provide some cash to the new hydrogen plants (CEC). Two more fuel cell car manufacturers have joined the collaboration, each with their own fuel cell vehicle sales agreements to help fund infrastructure expansion.
Hyundai’s global connection with Shell Hydrogen is strengthened by this arrangement. Hyundai Motor Company and Royal Dutch Shell plc inked a new five-year Global Business Cooperation Agreement in March 2021 to enhance collaboration on renewable energy solutions.
