HYVIA, a hydrogen mobility company established in June 2021, has announced the initiation of receivership proceedings, which began on December 10, 2024, at the Commercial Court of Versailles, France.
The decision reflects the financial strain caused by the slow development of hydrogen mobility ecosystems in Europe and the significant costs required to sustain innovation in hydrogen technologies.
During the observation period, potential solutions such as a takeover or support from new investors may be explored, as outlined in the court’s decision.
Over the past three years, HYVIA has made notable advancements in hydrogen technology and infrastructure despite limited market demand. In 2023 and 2024, the company approved two hydrogen van models and unveiled a third iteration at prominent automotive events, including the IAA in Hanover and the Paris Motor Show.
On the industrial front, HYVIA inaugurated a fuel cell assembly and testing facility in Flins, France, in March 2022. This milestone was complemented by the launch of a 1 MW electrolyzer designed to support the production of hydrogen for mobility applications.
Since early 2023, HYVIA has worked to establish hydrogen mobility ecosystems in collaboration with partners and pilot customers. The company has also developed hydrogen charging stations and introduced after-sales solutions to facilitate the adoption of hydrogen-based transport systems.
HYVIA’s efforts were recognized as part of the Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI – Hy2Tech). The company demonstrated agility in adapting to the rigorous demands of hydrogen innovation, contributing expertise in technology, industrial processes, and commercial deployment.
As the receivership process unfolds, the company’s ability to attract new investors or potential buyers will be key to determining its role in the future of hydrogen mobility.
