In a significant step towards the decarbonization of industrial consumption in Europe, Ignis, a renewable energy company, has unveiled plans to establish a plant for processing and storing green hydrogen and ammonia derived from renewable sources.
This ambitious project, set to be completed by 2031, involves an estimated investment of approximately one billion euros. Ignis aims to produce 850,000 tons of green ammonia annually, which will contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions in industrial sectors across the continent.
To propel this initiative forward, Ignis will seek the declaration of a Strategic Territorial Project (PTE) from the General Directorate of Industry of the Ministry of Economy. This declaration will provide the project with strategic recognition and support from the government, facilitating its development and implementation.
During a meeting with the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, Ignis executives shared the details of their ambitious plan, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable energy solutions in the region.
The Ignis Green Ammonia project comprises three distinct phases and involves investments exceeding one billion euros. The production unit will be located on land adjacent to the Port of Castellón, while the storage facility for green ammonia will be situated within the port facilities. This strategic positioning will enable efficient dispatch and distribution of green ammonia to meet the growing demand for decarbonized industrial consumption.
