Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co. KG has filed a patent for a novel fuel cell assembly designed to improve the efficiency and sustainability of hydrogen fuel cells.

The patent describes a multi-fuel cell stack arrangement integrated with a residual gas treatment device. This innovation addresses the issue of hydrogen-containing and oxygen-containing residual gases produced during fuel cell operations.

Unique Features and Improvements

The patented technology stands out due to its incorporation of a recombination fuel cell, which is equipped with a catalyst and membrane. Unlike conventional systems where residual gases might be vented or treated in a less efficient manner, this new design routes residual gases through a separate power circuit. This enables more effective treatment and utilization of hydrogen and oxygen residues, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency and reducing waste.

This innovation has several promising applications, particularly in:

1. Automotive Industry: Enhancing the efficiency of hydrogen fuel cells used in electric vehicles.
