A recently filed patent by Johnson Matthey Davy Technologies Limited, dated May 21, 2024, describes an advanced process for synthesizing methanol.

This innovation promises to enhance methanol production efficiency, utilizing hydrogen and other gases derived from hydrocarbon feedstock.

The patent, attributed to Johnson Matthey Davy Technologies Limited, was submitted on May 21, 2024. This company has been at the forefront of chemical engineering and methanol synthesis technologies, continually pushing the envelope in industrial chemical processes.

Unique Features and Technological Improvements

The patented process introduces several unique features that distinguish it from existing technologies. These include:

1. Advanced Reforming Unit: The use of a reforming unit that combines an adiabatic pre-reformer and an autothermal reformer in series.
2. Efficient Gas Recovery: A sophisticated method of cooling the synthesis gas in multiple stages, allowing for effective recovery of process condensate and formation of a make-up gas with precise stoichiometry (R value between 1.80 to 1.95).
3. Enhanced Recycling Mechanism: The system recycles unreacted gas mixtures, separating out hydrogen-rich and carbon-rich streams for reintroduction into the methanol synthesis loop and the reforming unit, respectively.
