Amid the urgent need to establish a support system for safety education to create a safe hydrogen industrial ecosystem, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea Gas Safety Corporation (KGS) on September 4th.

Cooperation for Sustainable Development Lee Sang-mok, Director of KITECH, and Park Kyung-kuk, CEO of KGS, agreed to collaborate on creating a cooperative system for the sustainable development of the domestic hydrogen industry. This includes safety education and technical support for hydrogen companies, testing and certification, support for overseas expansion, professional staff exchanges, and technological dissemination.

KGS’s Role as a Dedicated Institution KGS is the only specialized agency for gas safety management in South Korea and the national institution responsible for hydrogen safety. The organization has been focusing on building a domestic hydrogen safety ecosystem.

Hydrogen Safety Academy In August, KGS launched the ‘Hydrogen Safety Academy’ in Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk. The facility spans an area of 1,217 square meters and includes a hydrogen refueling station, hydrogen products and tubing (high-pressure hydrogen metal piping) training facilities.

KITECH’s Support for Hydrogen Enterprises KITECH plans to support the technical development and practical application needs of hydrogen companies and collaborate on safety education at the Hydrogen Safety Academy to contribute to the training of hydrogen specialists.

Lee Sang-mok’s Statement Lee Sang-mok stated during the signing ceremony, “Establishing a safety infrastructure covering all stages of hydrogen production, storage, transport, and use is crucial for the safe utilization of hydrogen. Through this agreement, we will closely cooperate with the Korea Gas Safety Corporation to provide technical support and establish a training system for hydrogen specialists.”
