Among the Italian recipients of the 5.2 billion euro public funding approved by the European Union, inside the IPCEI Hy2Use, is SardHy Green Hydrogen, the company formed on the basis of a joint project of Enel Green Power and Saras dedicated to the development of green hydrogen in Sardinia.
The money will go toward things like hydrogen value chain infrastructure development, first industrial deployment, and research and development.
Following the signing of a memorandum of agreement in February 2021, SardHy Green Hydrogen plans to install a 20 MW electrolyzer at the Sarroch industrial site in the province of Cagliari as part of the program. The plant will use renewable energy from Enel Green Power to create green hydrogen for the Saras refinery, with the goal of lowering the carbon footprint of the refinery’s operations.
Following the successful launch of the Hy2Tech project last July, Enel has now launched a second green hydrogen initiative within the European Union under IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest), entitled Hy2Use. There are a total of 5.2 billion Euros available for this second round, which will be used to fund 35 projects by 29 companies from 13 Member States, including Italy; the four Italian companies admitted to the second IPCEI on hydrogen will receive a combined total of 500 million Euros.
These projects will advance SardHy Green Hydrogen by Enel Green Power and Saras’s respective businesses in the industrial hydrogen infrastructure and applications space.
