UK-based ITM Power has secured a major electrolyzer contract exceeding 300MW for a green hydrogen power plant in the Asia-Pacific region.
While financial terms and the project’s location remain confidential, the company confirmed that the project is currently in the engineering and permitting phase and subject to a final investment decision (FID). If approved, the installation would represent a significant application of electrolytic hydrogen as a dispatchable fuel source for thermal generation—a use case still in early deployment globally.
The announcement continues a notable month for ITM Power. Earlier in May, the company secured a 120MW contract with Uniper for its Humber H2ub project in the UK, a green hydrogen production facility shortlisted under the UK government’s second Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR2). That installation will deploy six of ITM’s 20MW Poseidon core electrolysis modules and is targeted for operational launch by 2029, subject to final approval.
In a parallel development, ITM also confirmed a smaller but strategically important 2MW Neptune II electrolyser sale to a Spanish cement manufacturer. The unit will supply hydrogen to be blended with natural gas in a cement kiln, helping to cut emissions in one of Europe’s most carbon-intensive industrial sectors.
With hydrogen integration in thermal power generation still in its early stages, the Asia-Pacific order could be a bellwether for regional energy strategies. Countries such as Japan, South Korea, and Australia are all actively developing national hydrogen roadmaps that include co-firing hydrogen in thermal plants to displace fossil fuels.
