JDR has entered into a deal with Boskalis to terminate and test 100 array cables and two offshore substation interconnector cables for the Moray East offshore wind farm off the coast of Scotland.

This award secures further UK content for the project and comes in addition to the 200 kilometer supply of 66kV array cables and a range of termination accessories that are currently being manufactured by JDR in its facility in Hartlepool, United Kingdom. The scope of work includes the provision of technicians, tools and test equipment.

JDR shall carry out procedures for stripping of the armor safety, fitting of permanent braces, routing, sealing, electrical and fiber termination, including cable checking.

As part of this arrangement, the JDR will also conduct Damped AC testing of substation interconnector cables.

Through the contracting of JDR for both cable supply and termination and testing, Boskalis will benefit from consistency from manufacturing to deployment, maintaining the integrity of the cables from final commissioning before energization.

The reduction of interfaces would also allow a smoother activity and a better demarcation of the field.

Located 22 kilometers off the coast of Scotland in Moray Firth, Moray East, there is a 950MW offshore wind farm covering an area of 520 square kilometers in water depths ranging from 37 meters to 57 meters.

The project is being developed by Moray Offshore Windfarm (East), the consortium EDP Renewables (EDPR), Diamond Generating Europe (DGE) and Engie.

This group has partnered with Boskalis for the supply and installation of inter-array wind farm cables.

“We’re delighted to announce this contract win as this is our first-time providing termination and testing to Boskalis. This project win continues our increasing track record in the offshore installation market which is very important to us. It’s a testament to the sheer hard work and diligence of our offshore teams who continue to produce high service levels for offshore projects such as this one.”
