JERA, J-Power and Equinor have formed a consortium to jointly evaluate and work towards the submission of bids for offshore wind power projects in Akita Prefecture, Noshiro City, Mitane Town and Oga City and Yurihonjo City.
JERA is supporting the sustainable deployment of ocean-based renewable energy as Japan’s sole member of the Ocean Renewable Energy Action Coalition, which is made up of global offshore wind companies and organizations and aims to become a global leader in renewable energy, driving the development of large-scale offshore wind power projects around the world.
In Taiwan, which has similar weather and sea conditions to those in Japan, JERA has accumulated experience and expertise in development, construction and operation over a short period of time by joining projects in different phases to apply them to offshore wind projects in Japan, such as projects.
J-Power is the second largest wind power producer in Japan with approximately 530MW of net wind power generation capacity. J-Power has been operating offshore wind power generation projects in Nikaho City and Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture for many years.
With regard to offshore wind projects, it has expertise in the development, construction , operation and decommissioning of the Kita-Kyushu City Offshore Wind Power Project and was successfully awarded the Kitakyushu Hibikinada Offshore Wind Power Project by auction.
It also accumulates the latest European expertise in construction and operation by participating in the Triton Knoll offshore wind power project in the United Kingdom.

Akita is Japan’s first offshore wind opportunity and works proactively and sincerely. Equinor has been present in Japan since 2018 and has an office in Tokyo.
All three companies have been developing, building and running large-scale power generation projects around the world for a long time. The three companies believe that by bringing together their respective expertise and strengths to generate new synergies, they will be able to achieve world-class offshore wind power generation projects that are long-term, stable and efficient.
The consortium is committed to the long-term operation of offshore wind power projects of unprecedented scale in Japan. The consortium will contribute to the development of local economies and the achievement of a sustainable society by moving projects forward with the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders and local communities.
