JX Nippon and 8 Rivers Capital have inked a partnership agreement that brings together two worldwide leaders in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) to accelerate global decarbonization of power and hydrogen generation.

JX has a track record of success in various CCUS projects, including a CO2 injection pilot test in Vietnam and the Petra Nova CCUS Project in Texas, which uses CO2 extracted from a thermal power plant. In addition to continuing to operate as an energy operator in Asia in a secure and stable manner, JX has taken steps to expand its sustainable energy business.

For more than a decade, 8 Rivers has been at the forefront of the energy revolution, and was the developer of the game-changing zero-carbon power generating technology currently being commercialized by NET Power, LLC, of which 8 Rivers is a co-owner. In addition, 8 Rivers is the creator of 8RH2, the best-in-class clean hydrogen and ammonia technology, as well as a suite of industrial decarbonization technologies such as the TarT sour-gas treatment system and net-zero steel production, direct air capture, and point-source carbon capture. 8 Rivers is leading the deployment of a number of high-profile decarbonization projects around the world, including major projects in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australasia that are expected to be operational by the middle of the decade, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by millions of tonnes each year.

8 Rivers CEO Cam Hosie: “Collaboration with JX is a huge decarbonization force multiplier. It enables 8 Rivers to expand its clean energy business at a world-leading speed throughout the world, utilizing JX’s worldwide presence, knowledge, and decarbonization aims to expedite the deployment of zero-emissions electricity and hydrogen to help us achieve our joint net-zero goals. This worldwide partnership with a market-leading energy company will allow gigaton-scale carbon reductions by employing cutting-edge decarbonization technology.”

President and CEO of JX, Hiroshi Hosoi: “JX is excited to collaborate with 8 Rivers on decarbonization, confirming JX’s belief that CCUS will play a critical role in achieving carbon neutrality. With this exciting relationship with 8 Rivers, we look forward to extending our lower carbon business range.”
